The Ground Ola Gjeilo The Ground is based on a chorale from the last movement of Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass for choir and string orchestra. Gjeilo wanted to convey a sense of having ‘arrived’ at the end of the Mass; to have reached a kind of peace and grounded strength, after the long journey of the Mass, having gone through so many different emotional landscapes. The Chime Choir was fortunate to meet Ola in New York 2018 when we joined a performance of his ‘Dreamweaver’ suite at Carnegie Hall. |
Music Ola Gjeilo, Lyrics Charles A. Silvestri Soloist Jessica Bakker ‘Tundra’, with its soaring soprano solo, captures the barren but beautiful landscape of the Hardangervidda mountain plateau in Gjeilo’s native Norway: Wide, worn and weathered, sacred expanse Snowy patches strewn, anchored to the craggy earth, Unmoving while clouds dance across the vast, eternal sky. |
