On behalf of the Choral Institute Melbourne, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to “The Sound of Musicals” 2014.
Music Theatre is more than just a genre of music, it is an experience – the music, the lights, and the atmosphere. Throughout the ages, this impressive art form has captivated the hearts and imaginations of young and old. Tonight we would love to share with you our love of music from the theatre stage, as we share with you a few classic gems
"All that Jazz" - 2013
All that Jazz was a collaboration concert with the Melbourne Composers Big Band held at the beautiful art deco venue, The Centre Ivanhoe. Soloists: Rachelle Mosca, Alice Fraser and Dougal Davis
“London Calling” and Mozart’s ‘Coronation’ Mass in C Major 2012
London Calling was a selection of choral music composed and inspired by English musicians and composers. The program featured music from The Beatles, John Rutter, Paul Mealor plus some other choral classics.
Mozart’s Mass in C, commonly known as the Coronation Mass, is an exciting work written for Choir and Soloists. This stirring and emotive work was performed by Chime Choir, together with by Coral Rafferty (Piano), Hugh Fullarton (Organ) and soloists from the University of Melbourne. Performed on 4th August 2012 at Ivanhoe Girls' Grammar School Performing Arts Centre, Ivanhoe.
"Oh say can you see... " 2011
“Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light……” so opens the American National Anthem. While the lyrics are passionately nationalistic (and why wouldn’t they be!) the beautiful melody is known the world over. This themed concert included American songs from many different genres from early spirituals, folk songs, jazz and blues, to contemporary choral repertoire and contemporary popular. Performed on 27th August 2011 at Ivanhoe Girls Grammar Performing Arts Centre, Ivanhoe.
Australian Premiere: Karl Jenkins' Stabat Mater 2010
This contemporary setting of Stabat Mater is an unusual mix of traditional Latin with Hebrew and Aramaic and with emotive musical arrangements reflecting this mix.
Performed on August 22nd 2010 Christ Church, South Yarra.
The Spirit Sings Concert 2009
The concert featured a delightful selection of spiritual music.
Performed in August 2009 at Wesley Church Melbourne.
